I began a 39 year military aviation career with the US Army, first assigned as a Warrant Officer Aviator to the 175th Assault Helicopter Company located in Vihn Long, Vietnam, from March 1970 to March 1971. Many of the photos are people I worked with at that time. A number of these people are now deceased, but I enjoyed working with all of them.

I was contacted by Jim Donnelly, who was the Crewchief on Outlaw 18 after my tour had completed. He is endeavoring to gather data to make an Outlaw History. There wasn't a lot there for the 1970-on time frame. He helped me immensely by scanning about 330 of my old slides and photographs; I scanned hundreds more. Where they will all wind up, I don't know, but I started to place a number of them here to see if I could generate interest from other old Outlaws to contribute information to Mr. Donnelly and what I feel would be a valuable historical collection to other old timers like myself. The photos of the Rapid City Flood were shot as we searched for deceased after the flood. 238 people perished in that disaster. I had joined the South Dakota Army National Guard after I returned from Vietnam to fly UH-1 helicopters. Somewhere I have a hundred or more photos that I took from the morning after throughout rescue operations over the next week. I keep looking for them...
