Now living in the San Joaquin Valley of California, we spent 2011-2023 living in Thailand, except for 2020, when we were stuck in the US due to COVID.

I take photos related to our work, scenery, plants and critters of various sorts, etc. Especially plants, which you can find organized by plant family in my plants collection. (www.flickr.com/photos/eddingrid/collections/7215760583101...). Most photos here are mine, but a good number are also taken by my wife of 41 years.

I am quiet and analytical-I am constantly asking, "Why?"

I like birds, flowers, gardening, hiking, stringed Instruments, bicycle riding, geography, exploring. And good chocolate. I also spend a lot of time fixing up our house—which I don't always enjoy but it is more cost-effective than paying someone else to do it.

And I like good coffee. Did I mention I like chocolate?

Temptations I'm susceptible to: 1) a path or road I have not been on before, 2) plant nurseries, 3) book stores, especially used book stores (which are a bit rare these days)

I formerly worked as a soil scientist in California and Alabama, making maps of the geographical distribution of soils and teaching others about soil. You'll find my name on four soil surveys: Walker County, AL; Perry County AL; Kern County, CA, Southwest Part, and Kern County, CA, Northeast Part and parts of Tulare County. While we ended up using geospatial data and software to make the soil maps, I am still a fan of paper maps.

I also spent 8 years in Haiti, back in the 80's and 90's. Most of my photos from that period are scanned and here on Flickr in this collection Haiti Album Collection

I write blog posts about once a month here: mekong-sunrise.blogspot.com
