I have loved photography since I was about 11 years old (but probably earlier). My dad's passion for photography and Super 8 family movies was my source of joy and inspiration. I blog occasionally, and share photos, at eclectictrains.

My first SLR was a Pentax ME Super which was a present in 1982. This camera saw me through my student years. I regrettably sold it when I was a bit skint and as a consequence spent years in a non-SLR, compact wilderness. Getting a cheap digital Kodak compact in 2009 was a turning point and since getting an affordable DSLR (Sony A200), also in that year, I haven't looked back. As a Producer-Director at Xube (2001-2016), I became fascinated with the convergence of still image and video technologies and experimented with the creative possibilities of digital.

The iPhone has also become a weapon of choice particularly because I always have it with me and editing/uploading on the fly is a joy. 2011 was the year I joined a Flickr group which encouraged iPhone users to take a picture a day. Here is the album for that experiment: i365 (iPhone Photo per Day in 2011) album. I joined a new "pic-a-day" group for 2012 that is not exclusively iPhone pics. Here is my album for that year: 2012: A Year in Pictures. I am always hunting for new photographic challenges.

I still shoot occasionally with the Sony A-200, but have been experimenting with the Canon 100D and have recently acquired the FujiFilm X-E3. I want to revist 35mm film photography and purchased a mint condition Canon AE-1 in 2010 but have yet to give it a spin. I've started to clean, scan and catalogue my old 35mm slides and negatives. This has also rejuvinated my love for film.

I love landscapes, urbanscapes, abstract compositions, still lifes and I've started to explore street photography and portraits. Portraits are going to take a concerted push and some extra technical understanding, and investment, if I'm going to go beyond 'natural light' compositions (which I love).
