Egyptian Canadian Coalition of Democracy (ECCD) is a coalition of grassroots groups in different cities in Canada (Montreal, Québec City, Toronto, Ottawa, Kingston, Hamilton, Vancouver, Calgary, etc.)

ECCD is a founding member and a part of a newly formed international network (Egyptians Worldwide for Democracy and Justice -EW4DJ).

The principles of ECCD are:

-Refuse the military coup and all its consequences including the suspension of 2012 constitution, the Shura Council and the kidnapping of the elected president.

-Refuse any intervention by the military in the political process, regardless of any justification.

-Refuse imposing state of emergency measures and curfews in violation of the constitution, and we insist on the protection of everyone’s basic human rights including peaceful protests and sit-ins.

-Refuse banning any political party or group that existed on June 30th, 2013, and refuse labeling MB or any other group as a terrorist organization

-Demand the release of all political prisoners and the withdrawal of all politically motivated charges against them.

-Respect the right of all Egyptians who opposed Dr. Morsi, and we do not believe in the sanctity of any President or that he/she is above criticism and opposition, but we affirm that legitimacy can only be attained through the ballot box, the only civilized way for governing and the only way to avoid Egypt from slipping into the current chaos

-Celebrate the political, cultural, and religious diversity in Egypt as a true sign of civility and rich heritage, and stress that Egypt needs all these groups to develop and thrive, and we refuse any exclusion or marginalization of any citizen or group of citizens without a legal due process.

-Demand the legitimate authority, after defeating the coup, to appoint an independent committee to investigate the violation of the human right and the mascaras committed since January 25th, 2011 to serve justice and implement the principles of transitional justice and achieve national reconciliation.
