I have been fascinated by railways, particularly steam railways since an early age.

 

I am fortunate enough to live nearby to the Great Central Railway; the only double track preserved main line railway in the UK, and therefore the only one really able to show large engines in their true natural environment. For example:

 

 

I have a Photographic Lineside Permit that allows me access to the lineside to take photographs.

 

I also visit other railways.

 

The other occasional thing may crop up here.

 

Style

 

Many of my photographs are of the traditional three-quarter shot format. There are certain rules to taking this approach, including . Many of these are from the lineside. I will however also attempt. I think it's important to understand the rules

 

Quite a lot of my work is in monochrome, which I think being traditional medium suits traditional subject, i.e. railways. It also helps if the

I would like you to enjoy my photographs. I'd prefer if you thought about comments; say why you like a picture. Or indeed, otherwise; any constructive feedback would be appreciated; I won't be offended. I may agree with you.

 

What I will be offended by is if you post extremely inane comments with flashy gifs encouraging me to post it to a particular group and/or post similar inane comments on other photographs. Such comments just clutter the "most recent activity" feed.

 

If you add a picture to your favourites, that's great. However, with regard to portraits, please respect my subjects. So don't include my photos to your favourites if your favourites include low quality tasteless porn. You will be blocked.

 

I prefer views and comments from other railway photographers who have an understanding of the genre.

 

Equipment

I have a Canon EOS 60D, and previously had a 350D. I mostly use a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG lens.
