I teach high school English, journalism, and photojournalism. Recently moved to Virginia a couple years ago from Pennsylvania. I always enjoyed photography but finally decided to buy my own DSLR once I began teaching it.

I currently have an entry level Nikon D40 with an 18-55mm kit lens, a 35mm f/1.8 (bought it to encourage myself to take some more "people pictures"), and a borrowed 55-200mm Nikon. I haven't worked with using a flash much yet, but it's something I hope to do more of. I try not to use post-editing software, and attempt to compose my photos as well as possible, and in as many ways as possible in order to avoid photo editing.

My newest camera is a Lomography Fisheye. This is quite a difficult camera for me with its lack of metering and control and viewfinder... but it's fun to use so far! I'm still getting the hang of it. I ordered a cheap action sampler camera to play with (4 lenses) as well. I'm trying to get back into using film a little.

I think I get my aversion to post-processing from seeing the overly processed pictures on car forums and the ones my students often edit in class. My original interest in photography started with a film SLR class in high school, so that could have to do with it too. Once I own a house I plan to have a dark room and start with some film photography again.

My interests are mainly travel, cars, and photography. I greatly enjoy travel and nature photography. Car photography isn't something I have a huge interest in, but I due enjoy the pictures others take of them.

My favorite pictures I've taken have been landscapes and some macro-type nature pictures, but hopefully I'll broaden the categories of my subjects with experience.
