I hope you enjoy my pictures. I try to keep them as varied as possible, so I usually only upload one or two photos of a subject. I also try to avoid over-cropping them, as I like to include the environment and composition is more important to me than trying to bring out the most detail possible for displaying in flickr. I do my best to identify species, but I may not always be correct and I'm always happy to be informed of mistakes.

Looking back at my older photos, I can see my pictures are getting better, partly due to camera and lens upgrades.

I currently use a Sony Alpha 77II SLT camera along with a Sony 70-400mm G lens. I also use a monopod when out and about, and a tripod for most of my staged moth pictures. One reason I chose this lens is that I can use it both for long distance shots and close-ups.

I wouldn't recommend the 70-400 G lens though unless you have a camera with autofocus microadjust; I returned two of them as they both had front and back focus depending on the focal length. The lens I settled for only has front focus, but even so I still have to change the AF microadjust value (+5 to +3) as the focal length decreases. It (or the camera) also doesn't focus very well when taking pictures of birds on water.

Most of my photos on flickr are cropped. Happy to send the original if requested, or other photos of a subject if I have any.
