As a trailing spouse my husband's job requires us to travel (and relocate) regularly. So a camera seemed like a perfect way to record some of the places that we go to, and some of the things that we see.

I am an utter novice however - this camera is my first - but I have the bug and rarely leave the house now without it.

I love the instancy of digital and the creativity of the slr.

I have noticed that some comments encourage me to use photoshop or other similar programmes - I have thought about this but right now I want to concentrate on learning the art of photography in a purist sense.

I have enough to concentrate on as far as understanding apertures, shutter speed, ISO and lighting. Photoshop can come later on when I understand all the buttons on my camera and can use them confidently without holding a manual in one hand!

Dr Sisyphus - won't use her real name, as she doesn't include it in her profile - is a friend from our Hong Kong days. I am utterly amazed and impressed at how quickly she has become a very good photographer. She has an amazing eye for composition, has mastered her camera and all the technical aspects of photography in a fraction of the time it has taken me, and has become a very active flickr member. Love looking at her photostream, as it is always varied and interesting, oh and she comes up with the best titles!
