Short Bio
Dr. Mark A. Friedman (www.drmarkafriedman.com), a computer scientist, educator and entrepreneur, serves as the President and CEO of The Richard Roman Institute (www.richardroman.com). At Richard Roman, he promotes and delivers education, coaching, professional contacts and job placements to scientists and engineers, and business solutions through computing and networking technologies to businesses and organizations. In a career spanning three decades, Dr. Friedman has worked in academia, industry and research centers; as an engineer, programmer, educator, manager and executive; and as a consultant and business owner. Throughout his career, he has provided training, technology solutions and leadership with a thoughtful blend of innovation and vision with purpose and practicality.
Mark, originally named Richard Jeffrey Roman, was born in Manhattan, NY to Sylvia Roman in the Spring of 1959, and raised by his adoptive parents Stanley and Audrey Friedman in a middle-class, Jewish home in Brooklyn, NY. Early in life, he developed passions for home and community; education, career and achievement; service; and theater, sports, contemplation and conversation. Towards the end of young adulthood, Mark's life took a distinctly spiritual turn in a search for greater authenticity and meaning, as he embraced his identity and life as a gay, Jewish, interracial adoptee, a bi-racial person-of-color and person-in-recovery. His exploration for personal awareness deepened his understanding, compassion and love for himself and other people.
In both personal and professional life and in their union, Mark views his purpose in life as building a life of purpose, integrity, service and joy. Einstein said, "Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person." Mark continues to examine and define who he has been and who he will be as an individual and as an active member of a greater community - giving it his spiritual and earthly all.
