I have a PhD in Biochemistry, dabbled for a few years in postdoctoral research career, but since then I qualified as a European Patent Attorney and work in patent law. I have been involved in conservation and birdwatching since I was a kid. Although i always had access to and used, cameras since childhood, I got seriously into photography when I moved to Japan in 2005. I am a former resident of Osaka and moved back to Ireland in 2008. Since then, I have published four books with my photographs, "Shorebird of Ireland" (Collins Press, 2009), "Freshwater Birds of Ireland" (Collins Press, 2011), "The Birds of Ireland: A Field Guide" (Collins Press, 2013) and "Ireland's Garden Birds: A Guide to Attracting and Identifying Garden Birds" (Collins Press, 2017), all with Jim Wilson. The Field Guide was updated and a second edition was published in 2024 by Gill Books (they bought the rights to the Collins Press catalog when it closed (by choice) in 2018 or so).

I just lost myself (a good hour in total) looking through Mark's amazing bird photos and albums. So much patience is required to get these modern dinosaurs in sharp focus and glad his photos were able to be featured in some photo books. It makes me feel inspired and I would like to exercise my bird photography brain more when returning back to my hometown. Many of these bird photos would be amazing if they were sold in postcards and would definitely buy a set. And not having been to Dublin (yet) I could feel through Mark's street photos that it definitely was Dublin having been a fan of James Joyce for a couple of years. Really glad to have found amazing people like Mark through Flickr. Really looking forward to more Bird and Dublin street photographs. 화이팅!

The latest excellent monkey shots prompted me to write this. CarmoPolice takes some outstanding wildlife shots and gives me something to aspire to. Not only the bathing primates but also some of the great wader shots from last summer. Plus he supports the right footy team.
