My love of glass began with collecting coloured bottles. It never occurred to me to explore it as a medium until a friend (dear friend, business partner, roommates while attending Sheridan College for Interior Design) suggested we take a course in stained glass construction. I was in my early 20s then...I'm not anymore, but I still remember the first day of that stained glass class very clearly. I was intimidated and thought there was no way I could do what I was witnessing the advanced class doing. I was wrong, it was easy! I made suncatchers and was so thrilled. Soon enough, I was hording bits of leftover glass from projects not knowing what to do with it, not wanting to waste it.
Then...Epiphany!
I started with the dresser I had since childhood, then vases, then glasses, and now, well, pretty much everything I see is evaluated as to how well it would take a mosaic.
Back then, I didn't realize that there are so many people doing this! Why had I not known sooner? What rock was I under? I rarely do traditional stained glass anymore, mosaics have absorbed my attentions.
Today, I delight in pouring over the wonderful works I find here on flickr, there's so much talent in this world, so very inspiring, kudos to all you creative spirits.
If I could spend my days any way I wished, I'd be creating what I fancied at the moment then give it away to the first person to admire it.
