Joan is not the flower shot type, although he occasionally appreciates the escheresque qualities of these subjects. Neither does he seek to impress with airs and graces, but instead, he creates art from the ordinary, captures the unusual within everyday scenarios, paints the particular within the general with his camera alive . He skillfully shoots his motifs that range from faces to traces, from light to sight, from poses to roses (yes, occasionally, he does take pictures of flowers. When he does, he shoots them, guts them, cooks and prepares them, and then arranges them tastefully on a plate for the neat society to admire. It's only those in the know who find the discreetly added spices of irony stimulating the inside of their nostrils then...) Joan is funny and thoughtful, cool and experimental, exceptional and warm-hearted, and interested in the human condition. He's inspired and stimulating, and he understands about the shadows and the light. He's an artist. And he also has a certain twinkle in his eye and lense that I am particularily fond of.
