You know those trendy roller shoes the kids wear? The ones with the wheels in the bottom that allow them to zip around you at the supermarket? Don Carroll is the CEO of the company that makes those. He's also author of the 1979 bestseller "Dear Sir, Drop Dead." Don has been a middleweight boxer, a police detective, a dentist, and a toy designer. Don Carroll is also a relatively famous blues musician, a law school professor, and was at one point a Democratic Senator from the great state of Oklahoma. In between these things, Don runs 5K events, is an accomplished playwright, servers as a forest supervisor, and is a pastor. Don was even Mayor of Alamogordo, New Mexico for two terms. It seems there isn't anything Don hasn't already done. He's even been a talent manager and a special effects technician. The only thing Don Carroll hasn't done is be an advocate for social justice. Edit: He's done that too.
And then there's me.
This Don Carroll is a graphic design student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham finishing up his senior year in design (well, that and a couple of electives that should have been done already). This Don Carroll has been a cable guy, a construction worker, and was once the easter bunny at the mall (true story*). Don currently works at Scout Branding Co. in Birmingham, Alabama as a print and web intern. In his off-time, he redesigns his website 4-5 times per month, works on restoring his old Land Cruiser, and plays fetch with his dog Brody.
This Don Carroll thinks that execution is seconded only by concept and that only through intense research and critical examination can a proper solution be found. This Don Carroll is particularly interested in the interaction between a final execution and the public at large, thinks design could solve more problems than it already has, and that a good solution is nearly always more valuable than a particular aesthetic. This Don Carroll believes that creative visual communication, though difficult, is crazy fun.
I AM DON CARROLL.
I might not sell shoes or play the blues, but I'm not so bad. I'm looking for a position in a company that capitalizes on good ideas and creatively engages the public. Give me a ring or shoot over an e-mail if you'd like to work together. Hit me up on LinkedIn or Facebook to find out a little bit more of what I'm all about.
*Don destroyed all evidence of being the Easter bunny. You'll just have to take his word for it.
