As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Nancy and her friend, Sandra Marquiss, run a dog rescue of 29 elderly dogs that are unwanted, have behavior problems or serious health issues. Both women had previously been certified by the State of Nebraska as legal Medical Assistants when they worked at Bethphage Mission in Axtell. Houser had her CNA license. This medical background has helped them in caring for the rescue center – giving shots, tube feeding, wound applications, worming routines, ear cleaning, and being able to diagnose problems before they would get too bad along with the help of their neighborhood vet, Dr. Mark Adams.

Attending the Nebraska University – Kearney for four years of college with an English minor and attending two years at the University of Wyoming – Torrington while majoring in psychology, Houser has worked with Alzheimer's patients and behavioral issues in developmental and disability personalities. She was also the Vice-President of southern Nebraska's Dog Association (UPPA) in 2007 for a short time before retiring due to major surgery in 2007 and 2008.

Altogether, this was the background of the educational website "Way Cool Dogs." They are spending the remainder of their years for the avocation of the canine through educational articles, cartoons, speeches, and rescuing abused dogs on their little run-down acreage. This was accomplished through several years of free-lance writing and art work, along with ghost writing for various companies - Helium, AKGmag, Julie-Ann Amos (England), Exquisite Writing (England), Zimbio, Amaechi Ekufu, and many others. Nancy has been at Helium since November 4, 2006, with over 300 articles written in her spare time. Her Helium badges of honor include (1) Writing Contest Winner, (2) Marketplace Approved Writer, (3) Marketplace Articles Sold, and (4) Animal Professional – Animal Specialists.

Recently, she has taken the position in the Helium Channel Manager Program as Channel Manager of the Dogs (Other) Channel. As an artist and illustrator with over 30 years experience, Way Cool Dogs has become a venue for her dog cartoons and humorous illustrations which complement her articles in more ways than one to get the message across ..."please treat them with care."
