Welcome to the official Flickr site for the Department of War Education Activity, DoWEA, a field activity of the Office of the Secretary of War. DoWEA was established shortly after the end of World War II. It is headed by a director who oversees all agency functions from the DoWEA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

DoWEA’s primary mission is to plan, direct, coordinate, and manage the education programs for eligible dependents of U.S. military personnel and civilian personnel of the Department of War (DoW) stationed overseas. DoWEA operates 194 schools in Europe, the Pacific and the United States, serving nearly 87,000 children of active duty military and civilian employees.
