Been taking snaps since the mid-late 70's. My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic 126 (the one without a socket for flash bulb). Most of my pictures were blurred then.

2024 update - after shooting the Northern Lights in December 2023 with my Sony RX100M3 I decided to invest in a Canon 6D because it is highly-rated for astrophotography. I'm currently shooting through the following lenses:

- Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM

- Canon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM

- Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM

- Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Lens

- Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

2018 update - now shooting with a Sony RX100M3 after my M2 died whilst shooting the Milky Way (I dropped it). I’ve joined the RPS to inspire me and improve my photography, and hope one day to be good enough to apply for a distinction. My street photographs are taken with a wide-angle, not a long lens.

My first digital was a Minolta X20; a lovely tiny 2MP camera which took nice pictures (all my pre-2008 Valencia shots were taken with this). I upgraded to a 4MP Z3 and then a 6MP Dynax 5D just as KM pulled out of the camera business.

My X20 died on holiday so I replaced this with a Sony DSC-650, then a Samsung NV-11, and most recently a Canon G9. Carrying an SLR is often not practical for me.

2008 - I think that my photography has improved a lot this year, especially over the last 4 months. I've embraced HDR and have started to use my camera in Manual. Had one of my pictures on BBC Local News. Hopefully I will continue to improve in 2009 and I hope to finally see one of my pictures in print.

2009 - Bought a new camera, the Sony Alpha 700, and the superb Sigma 10-20mm lens. Think that my photography has definitely improved. Had a photo www.flickr.com/photos/dlsmith/3650486655/ shortlisted in Landscape Photographer of the Year (LPOTY) and featured on nokia.com. Still waiting, but confident I'll see one of my photos in print in 2010.

2010 - My photography continues to improve and I finally had my first photograph in print. I intend to devote more time to photography in 2011.

I hope that you enjoy looking at my pictures; please feel free to comment.
