Engaging. That's the word that comes to mind when I see Joey's photographs. Whether it's a snapshot from his trip to Africa, his photographic documentary of the G-20 protests in Pittsburgh, or just a simple picture of a stray cat, the images he captures bring you into his world like very few photographers can do. I'm always looking forward to Joey's next photo, and the next one, and the next one.

I accidentaly ran into Joey's album today in the morning, and didn't stop watching every single image till the end of the whole photostream. In his works i find a special sensitiveness, a peculiar perception of reality, of figures and colors, and a personal approach to the concept of time, of freezing the right instant, so that when you look at one of his pictures you have to say "well, that's it, that is exacly the perfect moment". A way of conceiving photography made of instants that tell a story, a feeling, a personal concept of communicating emotions through images.

While I don't see Joey as much as I used to, his work affects me daily. When he started a monthly photo show a few years back, it brought together people who became some of my best friends. Others have said it, but it's certainly worth mentioning again, Joey makes people feel welcome. His photographic work has also been something to witness. He was good when I first met him, and it says a lot when I say I'm still amazed by what he has to offer. He's always getting better, and in turn making others better too; photographically, and in life.

Joey has the innate ability to capture what you and I would see as the ordinary, and make it extraordinary. Joey has the innate ability to capture what you and I would see as the ordinary, and make it extraordinary. His photography is at a caliber rarely seen on Flickr and I feel immensely fortunate to have stumble upon his photostream. Plainly put, Joey is an amazing photographer and an even more amazing person. He always has a kind word of encouragement and knows how to put a smile on ones face. without taking away from the power and emotion of some of his incredible images, i think i can safely say that the impact of joey's photographs pales in comparison to the personal impact he has had on many people here on flickr, including myself. a wise man realizes that even the most astounding photograph is still just an impression on film, or pixels on a screen, but the people we meet and the friendships we forge will echo in eternity. even though we have never met, and live on opposite ends of the east coast, i am proud to call joey a friend. i look forward to the day where we will share a long cup of coffee together in who knows where. joey's photographs are incredible, but the strength of his faith and his commitment to friendships old and brand new is an inspiration, and is what truly sets him apart.

Without Joey EXPOSURE would not have come into existence and I would not have had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful group of people in Pittsburgh Flickr. I still remember my first EXPOSURE and how Joey made me feel instantly welcome, as he does everyone who attends. He works tirelessly and thanklessly to promote photographers in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh community is lucky to have such a talented and caring soul in its ranks.

When I first met Joey he seemed like a really nice guy. He invited me to the Garfield show. My husband and I were late getting to the show so we went to the after party in Bloomfield and didn't know a soul when we walked in except that I knew Joey. Joey saw me and ran right up to me and gave me a hug. I introduced him to Rich and he immediately was telling Rich thank you so much for coming out tonight! Rich liked Joey instantly! Rich and I then met Kirsten (Baby Dove) and talked to her the rest of the evening. Soon after that night we joined Flickr. The one thing that impresses Rich and me the most about Joey is his continual love for people! He is so passionate and deep about everyone and everything. He has never had an unkind word to say about anyone. When you meet Joey for the first time, he makes you feel like you have been his best friend forever! His photography inspired me from the first time I saw it! I think that Joey is wonderful for putting together a program (Exposure) for all of his Pittsburgh Flickr friends to show and celebrate their passion for photography with everyone in the Pittsburgh area. What can I say about Joey that hasn't been said already? Well, I guess I'd say that he has done something amazing with this little group we've formed in Pittsburgh. He's gotten people excited about getting together and taking pictures. He's made it a huge party that we all look forward to. He's helped foster a sense of friendly competition between us, where we push ourselves harder to become better photographers. He's introduced a lot of people to each other, who otherwise would not have met. He's created events where many of us have shown their work for the first time in years, or the first time ever. To put it succinctly, he's helped to give our little community a sense of community.

Todavía recuerdo con terror esas fotos tomadas en un panteón a la medianoche...esa energía no es común. Sus alta calidad como persona la refleja en sus super fotos, su set de cementerios o de modelos son un puro ejemplo de que Pittsburgh tiene a uno de los mejores fotógrafos en Estados Unidos, a el gran DJ Kennedy. ____________________ One of the most important things that happened to me when working with Carmen "Solea" González was, without a doubt, knowing DJ Kennedy. I still remember, with fear, those photos taken in the cemetery at midnight...that energy is not common. His High Quality as a person is reflected in his super photos. His set of cemetery or models are a pure example that Pittsburgh has one of the best photographers in the USA, the great DJ Kennedy.
