I don't spend a lot of time here, on Flickr, but I do spend a lot of time on lomography.com as I have found that the community there gives me what I'm looking for - as difficult as it is for me to define exactly what that is...
I don't like to describe myself as a photographer; that label seems to have a lot of preconceptions attached. I sometimes describe myself as a lomographer, but even that has unintended connotations, and leaves a bad taste in the mouth for some.
What the body of photographic images that I am creating suggests is that I enjoy the unusual, the uncommon, and the non-conforming. I enjoy looking at things from a variety of perspectives. I appreciate nostalgia, antiques, and things that are retro. I appreciate that form follows function, but the party never starts until form arrives. In the on/off, black/white, ones/zeros world of digital everything, my soul is analogue.
I enjoy alternate and experimental processes.
I appreciate chance, I've abandoned illusions of control.
I revel in collaboration.
I have a one-camera minimum. Maximum is only determined by the physical capacity of my bag/back/vehicle.
On January 1st, 2009, I decided that I would take at least one picture a day until...well, until I'm done.
My 2009 theme was LC-A+. No matter how many pictures I took with how many cameras, I took at least one picture a day with my Lomography LC-A+. You can check my diary at www.lomography.com/homes/dirklancer/albums/my-lc-a-plus-d..., however my battery died near the end of the year, and I didn't notice until the last few rolls were developed :(
