Dave. Large, somewhat hairy, and seemingly at the mercy of a big grumpy housecat.

Dave does Rialto

I shoot primarily landscape and nature, but I'm trying to expand my horizons.

I appreciate it when people take time to extend me an invitation, but I'm not a big fan of dancing baloney...so please, no huge spinning medals or monster shields if we can possibly avoid it?

Yes, yes I do enjoy shooting moving, flowing water...perhaps too much. Everybody starts out shooting it; some of us just never outgrow the thrill.

Ansel would've loved Photoshop: it's a tool, not a lifestyle choice...you might want to think about getting over it.:

In the electronic age, I am sure that scanning techniques will be developed to achieve prints of extraordinary subtlety from the original negative scores. If I could return in twenty years or so I would hope to see astounding interpretations of my most expressive images. It is true no one could print my negatives as I did, but they might well get more out of them by electronic means. Image quality is not the product of a machine but of the person who directs the machine, and there are no limits to imagination and expression."

~ Ansel Adams, An Autobiography, 1985.

I'd love to go everywhere and shoot. I live in the Pacific Northwest, however, so there's a lifetime's worth of everywhere already here.

According to a website I stumbled across---and I believe such things implicitly---my pirate name is Iron Necksnapper Ned. But only when I'm at sea.

I really do try to answer---or at least acknowledge---people's comments, but damn, flickr moves fast: if I missed yours...well, sorry.

I shoot "heavy," triage and edit mercilessly, and I post only what I'm happy with: as one of my favorite photographers says, "memory is cheap; memories are priceless."

If you want to know the specs for an image, ask: I can usually pull up the EXIF info pretty quickly. I'm not "hiding" anything: some of the other forums I post to have file-size limits, so rather than repurposing an image for several presentations, I format my images for the smallest web presentation I can, which strips the EXIF out of the file...that, and I hate hogging bandwidth: you know how much energy a server farm gobbles?

More than just grumpy, the cat is a baldfaced liar and an accomplished thief; she is also quite fierce when it comes to bugs.

"NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise...our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency...our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope...our four...no... amongst our weapons...amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again."

If "Nice pic" is how you really feel, well, thanks! But if your comment starts out "I like this because..." I'll be quite happy. And if it starts out "I don't like this because..." followed by constructive criticism? I'll probably be overjoyed...I like to get better: I'm weird like that.

(I stole most of that copyright stuff from Beckie-COG's profile...but it covers all the bases perfectly...thanks!)

Why does flickr bring out the exclamation point in everybody?!!!? Including me?!!!?

I do many things well, none of which seem to generate income.
