We are SOAS Digital Library based at the school of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (the leading UK institution for the study of Africs, Asia and the Middle East).

SOAS holds thousands of photographs dating from the early 19th century to right up to the present day from all over the world (in particular South and Central Africa, China, Taiwan, South East Asia, India and Madagascar). The range of subjects covered by the collections is vast, showing portraits of groups and individuals; buildings and landscapes as well as showing the lives, work and pursuits of indigenous peoples; means of transport; historical events, day-to-day scenes or special events such as festivals.
