Chinese proverb: “One picture is worth ten thousand words”.

Whether this actually was a Chinese proverb or not is certainly open to debate. There are several versions of this phrase including “a picture is worth a thousand words.” The point is, however, that as we observe the world the images that are formed permeate all aspects of our life. We create meaning from these images because the images themselves create a story, a story that in pictures transliterates more than just words alone.

One of my passions is photography. It is a creative outlet, which enables me to capture the moods, expressions and colours of our dynamic planet. I enjoy most subjects, but travel and wildlife are my favourites. It all started when working in Tuscany between 1999 and 2003. In 2004 I also spent four months in the Marche region of Italy and travelled around most of this region too.

It all started with a Leica compact in 2001 and then upgraded to my first DSLR (Nikon D80) in 2008. Last year I treated myself to a 150-500mm telephoto lens to get closer shots of wildlife. So now I mainly shoot with a Nikon D80 and sigma 28-70mm, 10-20mm, 70-300mm and 150-500mm lenses.

I am just an amateur and member of the Royal Photographic Society who achieved an LRPS in 2010 and ARPS in May 2011.

During my secondment in Florence, I was able to travel around all 10 provinces of Tuscany and from these excursions I have put together a photographic diary as it were, which is due to be published very soon by Mare Nostrum Editrice of Sassari Sardegna.
