Hi, if you are reading these words, then you are somehow interested in my shots (and you are wondering who is the man behind them). Well, this is Flickr, and I expect that my photos would tell something about me. There are things, though, photos cannot convey to the beholder...
My passion for photography began when I was just a boy, but my parents were keen to take their precious Kodak Instamatic away from my hands (dunno why...). When the official camera of the family was allowed to follow my wanderings, it was a bit of a disappointment. I tried to take good shots, but almost always my ideas were well beyond the technical capabilities of that toy camera.
When I was 16, in 1983, I was able to got my hands on a Fujica STX-1N - an entirely mechanical and manual reflex (batteries lasted for many years, since they just powered the light meter!). In the meantime my equipment was slowly growing: a Tamron 28 mm, a 200 mm Fujinon (which survived a 7 meters fall on Val Masino granite!), additional lenses, a polarizer filter, a flash, a tripod...
My good old STX-1N (may rest in peace) was my committed fellow for almost 30 years. Very low temperature, sun, accidental falls... Nothing could beat her - not really, at least - nothing but age :-(
I have got a Nikon D5100 some months ago (July 2013) - arguably not the last model, but I have chosen it mainly because of its resolution, considerably smaller than that of the D5200. I wanted a decently sized sensor, so why have "smaller pixel" due to a greater resolution?
In October 2020 I evolved into FX format and bought a Nikon D750 with Nikkor 20-120mm f4 ( plus my Samyang 14mm f2.8): it is a whole new world! I have only begun to explore the new possibilities...
I love Nikon cameras and lenses, not least because they remember me of my uncle Richard (died in 2013), a professional photographer for the Corriere della Sera, the main Italian newspaper, who was a passionate Nikonian.
I am making my way in the digital world, which is light years away from the reflex I have loved for so many years.
I love landscape photograpy, but unfortunately I live in a place where you cannot find breathtaking landscapes at every step and I have very little spare time, but I think that I can learn very much and better myself by wandering through the vast Flickr community.

The very first time I stumbled across Diego's photostream, boxes immediately started to tick. Looking at his photos grabbed my attention like a good thrilling book whose pages you cannot stop turning. A real book. Not an electronic one. When we meet someone in person we can get an idea of what type of person they are by their body language and tone of voice. In an online photo sharing site, it is, of course, different. You get to know someone by their photos, and the comments they leave. Diego's comments are not just thoughtful. He is completely generous with his time and encouragement (but don't just take my word for it, have a look at his photos!) There are some incredible photographers on this site, but Diego differs. His images convey warmth, peace, tranquility, security, and if I had to use one word - It would be humanity itself.
