Design is both mirror and leader of popular culture. Each of us bears witness to the truth in this statement, and, as designers outfitted with a full range of visual and auditory voices, we desire to find that sweet spot where our own voice is both in service and in concert with the din of our times.

During this one-week workshop, I assure you that play will be emphasized, while the joy of making and discovery will be rewarded and experienced. You will be asked to make things that have obvious purpose and things that are seemingly meaningless. You will be asked to notice, to trust, and to expand your individual creative space. You will be asked to use the notion of celebrity to make archetypal messages of value. While this notion is abstract today, it will be made clear only through our willingness to indulge, share, and discuss.

As a designer/maker/thinker myself, I am also an artist and love the notion of craft. I find myself easily bored of late, so I have been painting with SUMI ink. To keep things interesting, I have been painting with a large syringe. Expect to be challenged and unblocked by a similar exercise.
