Since 2008, I became interested in bird photography. I enjoy spending time outdoors and learning about the different birds, their behaviors, habitats and locations in the U.S. where they often congregate or are common.
My wife and I often take trips to view and photograph birds. When traveling on business, I may take a half a day and spend time at a local birding hot spot. I've recently become familiar with "birding on the net" which is organized by states and is a good way to monitor unique birding opportunities.
Since 2012, we've been establishing habitat on our 3 acre lot for birds, bees and butterflies. This involves a water feature, various bird feeders and large number of mostly native trees, bushes and perennials. This has provided lots of great photo opportunities right in our own yard.
Bird photography is challenging, but tremendous fun. The important factors I've discovered are; do your homework on the birds and locations, be patient and persistent, and be opportunistic - always carry your camera!
The photos are organized into albums, with the most recent being first and going back in time. Each album is composed of either photos from a trip or outing, or groupings of specific birds on a given trip.
Hope you enjoy the photos! Dan

Carol and I had a wonderful visit with Dan today. He inspired us with a tour of his bird, butterfly, and gardening sites. His knowledge of natural habitats for our flying friends is phenomenal! He is as gracious of a host as he is gifted as a photographer. Thanks for the great day! Ray and Carol
