I own an incredible business with my husband, Mike. In 1984 we opened the doors to Design Upholstery - reupholstering furniture, restoring antique furniture and fabricating the occasional custom piece. In early, 2000, the custom aspect of our business exploded! We became discouraged with seeing the TRUTH that lay beneath nice fabric and BIG names ... Inferior fabrication techniques, with inferior materials that opened our eyes to the GREAT DECEPTION that was hidden behind catch phrases and selling points. Words like "ENGINEERED HARDWOOD, NO SAG SPRINGS" were pumped-up marketing ploys coined to cause the trusting & uneducated public to buy into a lie. Unbeknownst to the general public, furniture shoppers were being sold a bill-of-BAD-goods. If this were any other industry, the FDA & EPA and every other consumer-rights organization would be all over it!! so, in 2007, we incorporated, changing our name to Design Services of Charlotte, to reflect a larger scope of what our services entail and commit to building furniture that can potentially last generations. All of the products we use are top grade ... all of the techniques we use are the best. Each piece is individually created by hand (and a few necessary saws and sewing machines!). Though we still give LIFE to your old and repurposed pieces, we also bring to bring to LIFE that which only existed in your imagination! Your CONCEPT it, our CREATION! And we CREATE it well!
