Longtime Oregon desert photographer Jim Davis has been part of the Oregon Natural Desert Association's Wild Desert Calendar committee since its inception in 2005. As a volunteer working with the Bend-based environmental group, Jim provided the inspiration to establish their annual Wild Desert Calendar. This all-volunteer effort has, for the last 20 years, provided the only showcase of Oregon desert images by regional photographers.

Rock climbing in the sunshine brought Jim to central Oregon in 1977. Along the way he began a construction business, raised a daughter, and participated in the early glory years of Smith Rock sport climbing development. Family vacations to Steens Mountain in the 80’s along with an eye-opening trip to the Owyhee Canyonlands in 1993 sealed the deal for Jim’s love of the wild and remote Oregon desert and began his growing interest in landscape photography. Learning about these natural ecosystems and the politics of human impacts to this fragile landscape became his passion and raison d'etre to build his photography portfolio . Forty years later his passion for rock climbing has been surpassed by his love of the Oregon desert and a devotion to sharing this love for this landscape.

Jim’s love of the high desert and his desire to contribute to the protection of these fragile landscapes continues to inform his imagery.
