Derek Beggs was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1969, and grew up in the small town of Dumfries. On leaving School, he studied for a year at Cumbria College of Art and Design before being awarded a place at the prestigious and world famous Glasgow School of Art. Following his education, he worked as an Art Director and Propmaker, bulding sets, props and doing special effects for film, television and photographers.

 

Following a brief break from art to go diving for a few years, and to travel and see the world, he settled in Germany where he kick started his artistic career with a successful one man shows in Munich and in Copenhagen. Following up with exhibitions in Scotland, Berlin and once again in Munich, he moved to the small town of Lengenfeld, near Landsberg am Lech where he opened his own gallery and studio at which visitors are allways made very welcome.

 

In addition to his Artistic endeavours, he is currently half way through his second book . He has an outgoing personality, is friendly and approachable, a father of a talented young son and the proud holder of a Nobel prize*

 

The variety and range of his artistic styles is very broad, but he primarily works in conte, pastel and Oils in a range of techniques and styles from impressionist to expressionist, abstract to figurative. In short, his work, like the man himself is constantly evolving, constantly changing and whilst it may be difficult to group all of his pictures in a single category, they all, without exception have his style and influence as clearly written on them as his signature in their corners.
