Light is the primary factor in our ability to interpret and define the universe. Capturing light in long exposures breaks down our conventional understandings of time and space. Time is no longer linear. We see multiple moments all at once. We become time travelers.

I would like to take this time to sincerely thank Mr. Calvert for being so kind enough to share his light painting processes and techniques with many of us flickrites. You have influenced many people in more ways than you can imagine. Part of my success as an artist/photographer began with your kindness to share your techniques. Because of you I was 1 of 30 artists to have 1 piece selected out of 40,000 portfolios for an exhibition domestically in 2010-11 in the AP program for high school. The judges really loved my steel wool piece as they selected it to be there cover poster. AP receives roughly 720,000 pieces of art work which include drawings, paintings, and photography. Only my photo was selected. Not only that, I was able to score a perfect 5 of 5 on my portfolio and received 6 college credits. Even though much of my portfolio consisted of skateboarding portraiture, the steel wool piece YOU inspired me to create really brought the flare for my breadth portfolio. Thanks for being a mentor for all of us on flickr.

We spent 3 days and 3 nights light painting, his motivation kept us going through the morning. It was truly awesome working with him and he is a truly awesome fellow. I had a blast Dennis!!! I hope we get to do this again. I'll be making plans to hit Alabama in the next couple months.

Before I even had a flickr account, I remember getting online and looking at his photostream hoping that he had new shots posted. I'm truly fascinated by his work and his has been a huge inspiration for me! Thanks!

I'm going to keep this simple because words are pointless when the art of Mr Calvert so obviously speaks for itself. So, in short, Dennis is like a planet of creativity all of his own - replicate it if you can, or if you dare, but just sit back and admire if you can't :)

Dennis definitely wants to take his light painting efforts to the farthest reaches of his imagination and I'm really digging what he's doing with them. I will be looking for consistently bigger and better things from Mr. Calvert as I'm sure he'll continue to be an inspirational light painter. Keep it up Dennis!
