Greetings!

My name is deirdre mahoney. Thanks to all of my flickr friends and supporters for over 2 MILLION (!) views to my photostream--I've now posted over 3,200 photos! I am humbled by your interest in & appreciation of my work.

My health and mobility are not the best, so your support means everything to me!

------

To my dear friends & contacts:

Please forgive me for not visiting your photostreams as often as I would like. I admire your work! However, circumstances beyond my control don't permit me to do so. Also, since 2017, I've been using a kindle fire tablet or smartfone to create images and to use flickr. In addition, there is a recent "improvement" to flickr that makes it impossible for me to view photos of some of my friends and contacts individually, which means that I can't comment and/or fave them, either.

Things will hopefully improve some day, and I look forward to seeing and appreciating your work more fully in the future...hopefully, God willing, insha'allah, oxalá, ojalá!

Love--and much creativity to all of you,

deirdre

Here's a línk to my 93 sets, now called "albums," sorted by themes/subjects of interest to me, most of them featuring people!

Photography is one of my lifelong passions, one I "inherited" from my father. I love to take pictures of people, whether candid street shots to portraits of all kinds, including environmental portraits, where people are seen in the context of their lives. I also enjoy photographing dancers and musicians in performance or not, as well as a wide variety of other photographic subjects, windows, including reflections; mannequins; shadows; and cities--by day or night--especially New York City. I am primarily a street photographer.

I have several other lifelong passions, including cinema, literature, music and dance. Another passion is a love for language--including foreign languages. I have had the privilege of learning a number of languages in my life, so you may comment my photos or write to me in English, Français, Italiano, Español, Portugûes, or Deutsch, as well as smatterings of other related languages. For the past few years, I've been studying Dansk (Danish), which I have fallen in love with thanks to Danish cinema. It's not an easy language to learn on one's own--but I enjoy the challenge!

I'm also learning some of Danish's Scandinavian "sibliings,&quote languages, Norsk and Svenska (Norwegian and Swedish), which I also really enjoy..

I can also understand some Haitian Kreyol, Nederlands, русский / Russian, and a little 日本人 / Japanese (in Romaji), and phonetic Egyptian Arabic (with Western letters) / العربية .

I have walked this earth for over six decades now...and taken photos for more than five of them.

I wish you a warm welcome...

Thanks so much for visiting my profile! I hope you enjoy my photos.

I also wish to thank all my flickr friends--old and new--for their visits, comments, faves and support over the years. I am deeply grateful!

I've had few extended absences from flickr. During the first, I was busy on a book project with my aged father, which has been been published. The second one was due to an extended illness, I'm back now, tentatively. I really miss my flickr friends and look forward to catching up with them and perhaps making some new friends, too. :->

I have limited mobility due to my increasing disability so, as the Fats Waller song said!, I "don't get around much anymore." I now take mainly indoor photos and cloudscapes in my Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, north of Harlem, in New York City, USA.

Several years ago, some young men whom I photographed in my neighborhood of Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan wanted ME in the picture, too! Here's the result:

Deirdre--she's always fresh, always surprising, and always makes me resolve to start carrying my camera with me at all times, just like she always does. A keen observer of life, the city, people, dance, art, architecture, window displays, advertising--just everything! She's created a great body of work on dance performances of all kinds--be sure to check those out! And she's got a vitality, an enthusiasm, an openness that takes her photostream all over the map. She never fails to surprise me. I've yet to get to New York, but thanks to "charmante", I feel like I can go whenever I want.

Have you ever been to NYC? So look carefully about her work!

Deirdre, one of my very favorite photographers on Flickr, has been building a most incredible portfolio here. She is a real NYC insider and reflects the complexity, beauty, humor, rawness, RICHNESS, and insightfulness of that city and its people. To do all this as one woman with a camera is nothing less than a great accomplishment. She knows how to chose the place, the person, and the moment like no one else. Deirdre rocks! She is a classic, and if you haven't explored -- prepare to be amazed!
