I grew up in Southern California and spent most of my free time at the beach, at a concert, in the mountains, or exploring what Mexico and the states surrounding Calif. had to offer. It was really hard for me to stay in one place for very long. I love all kinds of music so the 60's and 70's was a good time to be young and free. I never considered myself to be artistic in any way. I can't draw, I can only paint by numbers. I can't play a musical instrument, I can't carry a tune to save my life. I always thought it was unfair for someone to love music so much but not be able to join in. And for someone to have a love for art but is unable to draw anything. I did enjoy my hippy art teacher in 10th and 11th grade that had us make sand candles, clay pieces, paper mache' pigs, and tie dye t-shirts. It was as close as I got to being artistic.

Fast forward about 30 years. I am at home watching a DIY show because I have a broken arm and am trying to avoid surgery. Doctors orders say do as little as possible to see if the bones will begin to heal. So on the DIY show a lady has a few small plates with a pretty floral pattern. She brakes the plates and takes the pieces and glues them onto a clear glass plate.

Then she adds grout to fill in the empty spaces. She shines it with cheese cloth and now she has a finished nut dish. I loved the finished piece, I remember seeing big colorful mosaic pots in Mexico and always loved them. And thought maybe I could make a nut dish with one arm. So My husband took me to the goodwill to search for pretty little plates, and to Walmart for clear glass plates and glue, and then to lows for some grout. So I took my supplies home and used a hammer to break the plates, then I glued the pieces on the clear plates and grouted, then shined I had 2 very nice nut dishes. I gave them as gifts and they were a big hit.

That was 15 years ago and sense then I have made hundreds of mosaic pieces. And the first time I was called an artist by a Lady that hosts a local event called & a gathering of artists& I really thought she bumped her head. But I was invited to bring my pieces to the event and attend for several years. I was also invited to bring my art to The Master Gardeners event on the LSUS grounds which i attended every year from 2015 until Covid. My Guitar pieces were hung at ArtSpace for the Art of The Guitar event and as a result i was asked to do an electric guitar as a gift to James Burton. I love creating mosaics and I am still amazed when other people love them too.
