Debbie manages to present an intimate and respectful picture of her native lands. She renders her environment in stark contrast to it's beauty; with our discarded waste, our power poles and our broken walls. It leaves those things gawking right back at us, gently mocking our excess, but also presenting the underlying feeling that the landscape is quietly forgiving. In looking at the environment that surrounds our cities and towns, Debbie investigates the 'transition' from urban growth to the rural remote, and finds a certain 'beauty' everywhere. I feel Debbie constantly strives, and succeeds, to attain the Japanese aesthetic quality of wabi-sabi wherein beauty is synonymous with imperfection, simplicity and a certain humility. I strongly suggest that any fan of Debbie's photography look into her paintings and sketches on her blog, and revel in the way she uses different mediums to tell the story. It is exemplary art, with genuine emotional content and although it's her story, the viewer is bound to find something of themselves within it. Enjoy!
