The Dutchess County Historical Society was formed in 1914 with the mission that remains to this day, to identify, protect and share the history of Dutchess County from its earliest people to the present. We do so in partnership with many individuals and organizations, among them the Dutchess County Historian, municipal historians, local historical societies, and many others as a way to come to understand and reveal our predecessors' most complete story. Generations have entrusted us with a wide variety of objects, documents and photographs that we care for in our Collections. Our Yearbook maintains the highest standards of scholarship while remaining accessible. It is the longest-published historical journal in New York State having launched in 1914. We share what we learn through exhibitions, talks both in person and online. We welcome comments, ideas, and new members! The reason for why any given image is displayed here is very informal. This is not a formal collections inventory, rather some samples from collections that have been converted to digital files for on reason, or another. And that may be of broad interest. ~ Bill Jeffway, Executive Director Image file naming convention: DCHS--Abbr Collection Name--Date and/or Desc.
