Subtle.

[ˈsʌtəl] as per the freedictionary.com:

adj

1. not immediately obvious or comprehensible

Like the letter ‘b’ in the word ‘subtle’.

How much beauty do we pass each day that we fail to notice? At what point do we ‘get used’ to our surroundings and take for granted that which is sacred? What if we were to pause and notice the beauty of that spider’s web? Per chance we found a moment to reflect on the graffiti artist’s work, what would we find out… about life, about art, about ourselves, about redemption? What if it is in the subtle things of life that the divine is revealed?

“Again he said, ‘What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.’”

- Jesus, Mark 4:30, TNIV

And from an author and theologian whose words continually guide me along the path of subtle, the path of grace:

“Listen to your life. See if for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.”
