"One eye sees, the other feels." Paul Klee (20th century artist) I'm immediately struck when going through David Brown's photostream by his ability to see and to feel his surroundings. David captures with his lens the beauty that escapes the many of us. He sees it. He is not immune to it. His eyes are open. But that's not enough for David. No, he uses the complete sensory instrument, just as Paul Klee set forth in his examination of the artist. Based on the way that David frames his photos, he communicates passion far beyond the blues of a frozen lake or the sun-misted golds of an urban meadow. He feels. He is by no means "dry"-eyed. His heart is open. But Paul Klee missed something in this particular observation of the artist. He missed the sypathetic, generous spirit of the soul. The eyes are just the windows afterall. David has very picturesque, very accessible windows, but it is his soul that invites us all to share in the cozy slumber of a cat, the warm solitude of a waiting study lounge, the certain promise of well-worn tracks; it is his soul that allows us to peek through his beautiful seeing and feeling eyes. His world is open.
