I retired from Network Rail's S&T Technical Support team in Liverpool in December 2018 after over 41 years service on the railways, so now devote more time to the pursuit of my hobbies, but principally my photography, reading, walking and model railways.

Apart from my primary interest in observing and photographing ships, I am also into civil and military aviation, architectural, landscape and nature photography, postboxes, building and operating large-scale radio-controlled model tugs, reading crime and military fiction, listening to music, walking, cooking, baking, driving and collecting railwayana. And recently rediscovering old interests in anything fire & rescue service-related, buses and model railways.

I still retain a strong interest in railways, but am not that interested in the current scene, as to me, it seems to have lost a lot of the character and atmosphere that it had. My favourite loco classes are mostly BR-era, but I do like 60’s, 92’s, plus the usual Brush 4’s, WR Hydraulics, EE diesels, 86’s, 87’s, 90’s, and the old rattly, BR diesel multiple units.

Current photographic equipment comprises of the excellent Nikon P900 bridge camera, which I am very pleased with and can recommend to anyone thinking about buying one. I have also purchased a Panasonic Tz100 compact for use when out on my walks.

I am currently Administrator for nine Flickr Groups, eight of which I established from scratch.
