I am a lawyer, consultant, director and trustee, climate activist, and student.
I am an experienced lawyer, with experience in both civil litigation and criminal law. Admitted to the bar in March 2010, I have four years post qualification experience. I am a staff solicitor at the Auckland Community Law Centre and previously worked as a litigator at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and Judges' Clerk at the Auckland High Court. As a student, I summer-clerked at Chapman Tripp. You can read more about my legal work here.
Occasionally, I work as a consultant through Tong & Associates Limited. Click through for details of the services I can provide and my rates, or just give me a call or email.
In the non-profit sector, I sit on nine boards - and have co-founded three charities: P3 Foundation, the Aotearoa New Zealand Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) and the Aotearoa Youth Leadership Institute. I still co-chair HRLA. I am a director of Greenpeace New Zealand and the New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education Limited. I am a trustee of the Aotearoa Youth Leadership Institute, Gifted Education Centre, and Vegan Society of Aotearoa New Zealand. In P3 Foundation, I remain an advisory trustee. I sit on the management committee of the Human Rights Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand and the steering committee of the New Zealand Youth Delegation. You can read more about the boards I'm on here.
I am a climate activist, because I believe that climate change is the greatest challenge that our society faces. I coordinate the global Fast for the Climate campaign. You can read more about my climate activism here.
I am currently completing my Masters of Laws by minor thesis, writing on the failure of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change mechanisms to implement the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and so protect developing states' interests. You can read more about my Masters here.
I used to blog about animal and environmental law issues at The Solution.
I was involved in the UN Youth from 2003 until early 2011, and in 2010 received the Wysocki-Bates Award for outstanding contribution to youth involvement in the UN.
I am a keen road cyclist and a hiker, having completed the Oxfam Trailwalker eight seven five six times.
