i seldom write these. not much to say that has not been said. a great talent.
David is great. A classic London street photographer.
everything what I know about David is I really enjoy watching his pictures. For me one of the best photographer on in-public website :-)
Meant to say this awhile back. He's always good, just look.
I spent a bit over a weekend shooting with David. I spent a bit over a weekend shooting with David. On my way back I had thought about how to write a testimonial and then I managed to put together a few words -most forgotten or not well recalled anymore-. A good David Solomons' picture is a more mundane than simple shot. At least on the surface. Then, slowly, from that first coup d'oeil the beauty of the shot starts to emerge. It's nothing shocking, but it's telling and true. It's not too close as for making you forget the complexity of the situation, but the main event or events are easy to be told apart. There's no mess in his images. They are iconic simplifications of the daily life. It's easy to think that not much work is spent in such images, but if you saw all the time that David spends editing and fighting with prints you would see how the easiest of tasks might be the hardest: just describing the west end. In this sense, the work of David manages to sell us the illusion of an objective observer mostly interested in the subject, not in cheap stylistic experimentation or cliche repetition.

I'm relatively new to flickr, but I've been around long enough to uderstand that David is one remarkable, talented, and versatile photographer. From capturing a uniquely humane moment, creating classic or chaotic compositions, to silhouettes and pure image making, he can do it all. So if you need some inspiration, or you just want to learn something about the art and craft of photography, his photostream is a must.
Read lessDavid's photographs, like a modern day Dicken's, chronicles the people of London and opens our eyes to the strangeness of contemporary life, he captures the inescapable loneliness of mans existence through one brilliant image after another. His whole photostream is easily one of the best on flickr
the only reason i can think of for lack of testimonials is that he really doesn't need 'em, people just hang out and dig the pictures. :) and yeah, i dig the pictures. he loves taking them, i love looking at 'em!
