David Sieren is a multidisciplinary designer and strategist focused on solving problems, inspiring teams, fostering community, and sharing knowledge.
A partner at One Design, David is the studio’s Executive Creative Director, leading teams focused on creating powerful experiences at the intersection of research, strategy, design, communication, and technology. David teaches visual communication and graphic design history at DePaul University’s School of Design, and previously taught graphic design at Marwen, an organization founded to create free opportunities for young people from under-resourced communities and schools in Chicago to participate in the visual arts. In 2007, he co-founded the Post Family, an internationally recognized Chicago-based collaborative focused on the creation of experiences that engage communities through art and design. He served as Co-President of AIGA Chicago—the second largest chapter of the nation’s oldest professional association for design—between 2017 and 2020, and remains active within the organization.
He holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. His work has been recognized at home and abroad by the likes of Communication Arts, PRINT, HOW, AIGA, Society of Typographic Arts, Graphis, The New York Times, Brand New, Design Museum of Chicago, and the BBC. In 2020 he was recognized among 50 designers who shape the city of Chicago by Newcity. David has given talks at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, University of Illinois Chicago, Monotype Brand Talks, MAS Context Analog, Creative Mornings Chicago, First Round by UnderConsideration, Chicago Ideas Week, Pratt NYC, AIGA Leadership Conference, SEEK Conference, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Kent State University. He has exhibited work at the Design Museum of Chicago, Society of Typographic Arts, Comfort Station, Typeforce, Levi’s San Francisco, Trinity College, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Columbia College Chicago.
In 2020, One Design was recognized by PRINT as Agency of the Year as part of their annual international Design Awards competition. Work from One Design has been featured in books published by gestalten, Graphis, and victionary; as well as in publications including IdN and Communication Arts. A selection of the studio’s identity work will be included in a forthcoming book curated by Offcuts, to be released in 2026.
