I graduated from the Fine Art Photography (BA Hons) course at the Glasgow School of Art in 2001 and have been working hard to establish myself as a respected professional photographer and artist ever since. I specialise in long-exposure photography (the art of ‘Light Painting’) as well as macro photography (my ‘Little People’ and Toy series).

As well as regularly exhibiting my Artwork here in the UK, I also run regular creative photography Workshops. If you are ever keen on joining me on one of my Workshops do please feel free to check out this section of my website. I try to run at least 1 or 2 group Workshops each month, and I also receive regular bookings from secondary schools across the UK.

I also regularly work on bespoke commissions for clients all over the World. If you have an idea that you feel could benefit from my knowledge in Light Painting or Macro Photography I’d love to hear from you.

Light Painting

What makes these images so special is that they are all created using a very long exposure time and are created at night when it is very dark. The nature of the long exposure allows me time to walk into the shot while it is being photographed. I then move around portable light devices to create the colours and shapes that you see ‘frozen’ into each image. So long as I keep moving around during each long exposure and avoid illuminating myself, I remain completely invisible in the resulting photograph. I teach regular group Light Painting Workshops to photography enthusiasts as well as in secondary schools across the UK.

The Little People

Have you met the ‘Little People’ yet? These tiny figurines have travelled the globe more extensively than I have as they continue to make it into publications all over the world. Each figure stands at only 2cm tall meaning that creating this work is a rather delicate (yet incredibly rewarding) process.

Toys

This work is an offshoot of my Little People series. These figurines stand at around 6” tall, and so I use dolls’ house materials and props when constructing my miniature sets.

David... A man I've still to meet. But a person I regard as a great friend. David was one of the first people I made contact with here on flickr when I started my journey into light painting and photography, his support in the early years developed into a great friendship. If it wasn't for the motivational talks during 2012 when we both did a 366 project I don't think I would have made it to the end. Keep up the great work my friend. Its a pleasure to watch you grow as a photographer and also as a family man... One of these days we will get across to meet you all. Jules
