What is an artist? What's a photographer? A human being able to reveal, by instinctive truth, emotions of it's own kind or a formidable salesman trading ideas the audience wants to get?

I often ask myself this question, usually when I a start a new project, when shooting and when the whole work gets a final shape. Honestly, I don't see myself as an artist but a simple yet greedy consumer of all infinite variations light, environment and lens can render of world.

And if any subject can be interesting, intriguing, ordinary or gross, who's in charge of it's final judgement?

A painter fixes the scene from his heart, even when the original one is long gone, in the end making it a blend with himself.

The musician renders the scene alive, able to breath yet different, mutating for each soul hearing.

The writer unveils any shadow from it, fixing boundaries by exploring, leaving others the final result.

The sculptor controls time and place in a challenge, giving the scene a perfection exceeding change.

And finally, the photographer can catch it, a still to be world exposed as it is or even hide parts, maybe infusing a message if humble enough not to suffocate it with his own self.

I started shooting when I was a kid, a wonderful Leica M5 was more a plaything, like a colorful toy. And again with a Polaroid and its immediate appeal: how strange it was to freeze a scene in a small squared piece of paper. First exposure controls and the exciting effects of a flash, each explosion more interesting than the real deal.

To adulthood the game unveiled shapes of techniques, the infinite range of details and all the astonishment the simplest scene can transmit.

As a passion like many others, time made it more, made it a challenge of concept: how to obtain a fraction of existence to be shown as I was seeing it? And what value others will give, what kind of emotions others would perceive from what I was observing?

Today I consider myself a privileged who can both work and have fun, absolve duty with desire. I don't feel a style or theme more important or noble than others: that's if you're scared of challenges. I like to see myself free from obligations, always ready to critically change everything I do. Until insanity will overcome action, I'll keep enjoying each new second.
