The activity of painting is about pushing past the limitations of ones imagination, to bring back the subject in an unforeseen way.

I work with traditional subject matter, but do not wish to be limited by its conventions. Each painting is an investigation into a particular subject and a search for a new visual language.

The final works are rarely attained with any ease and are the result of numerous failed attempts to define a subject. Layer upon layer and revision after revision, a point is finally reached where no more can be done with a particular painting, the result of meeting ones technical and imaginative limits.
