The paintings, using water-colour, ink and pencil, are described as “Magic Realism” because although the subjects are, according to the artist, true to life, the settings and /or dimensions can be fantastic. With one exception, 30 of the 31 pieces displayed here are filled with the joy, laughter and peace that reflect the process of creation.

Davida Hoyos, the artist, a university graduate, spent most of her working life teaching, part of time working in the theatre, and always, when time permitted it, painting and drawing. Except for an (important) art course at teacher’s college, she is self-taught. Some of her earlier “hard-edge” (but very colourful) and watercolour paintings have been sold in the private market.

During that last couple of years Davida has had the opportunity to focus more time on her art. She looks forward to sharing it, and is offering most of it for sale. She also would be happy to discuss commissions for her “versions and visions” of “magic realism” in portraits and flowers and butterflies and things of beauty and importance.
