Dr. David Herzog is a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in Boston and was Director of the Eating Disorders Unit in the Child Psychiatry division at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). A leading expert in the field of eating disorders, David Herzog, M.D., travels internationally to present seminars and lectures on the subject. He has also authored or co-authored three books and hundreds of peer-reviewed publications during his career. His published works include the books Unlocking the Mystery of Eating Disorders: A Life-Saving Guide to Your Child’s Treatment and Recovery (2007), Psychoanalysis and Eating Disorders (1989), and Advances in Psychiatry: Focus on Eating Disorders (1987).

Dr. David Herzog began his academic career in the late 1970s as a clinical fellow in the psychiatry departments at Boston Children’s Hospital and MGH. In 1980, he joined Harvard Medical School as an instructor in psychiatry. Before accepting his current appointments at Harvard, he served as an assistant professor of psychiatry and associate professor of psychiatry. Over the years, he has taught a wide variety of Harvard graduate and medical school courses with focuses ranging from child psychopathology to the principles of nutrition. David Herzog, M.D., has also presented seminars on eating disorders at numerous conferences, such as the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry’s World Congress, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) conferences, and annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association.

During his career, Dr. David Herzog of Boston has also directed or co-directed several programs on body image and eating disorders. From 1997 to 2010, he managed an annual public forum on media and body image at Harvard University. Prior to this, David Herzog co-directed post-graduate courses on eating disorders at MGH and Harvard Medical School.
