David Bank
Drag to set position!
David grew up in West Berlin during the Cold War in the 1980s. He studied architecture in the German capital, where he developed a keen eye for landscapes and the built environment. Internships and professional engagements abroad took him to France, Brazil and the United States.
After several years working in Berlin, David moved to London in 2005 to pursue his career as both an architect and a photographer. There, he documented the face of an ever-changing city and the people who shaped it. His work was exhibited in 2012 and also featured in a group exhibition in Beijing in the same year.
Extensive travels have taken him to Mexico, Brazil, Russia, the Middle East, China, Southeast Asia and Australia. In 2018, David returned to his hometown of Berlin, where he has lived ever since.
He specialises in cityscapes and architectural photography with a strong focus on the “blue hour,” creating bold and vibrant images of world cities at dusk. A hallmark of his work is the perfectly straight verticals in all his photographs.
David’s clients include several major London architectural practices, SMBC Nikko Bank, Overbury, Mitsui Trust, HannSpree, Samsung, image libraries, and private clients who have commissioned him for wedding photography.

Instead of stating the obvious that David is a very talented photographer, I'd like to say that he is also a good motivator who is adept at providing constructive criticism to his fellow photographers. I have always taken heed of his advice and all his comments have encouraged me to do better. Being able to view the world at the same (blue hour) light as him makes it a pleasure to exhange comments with him as it is to see the magic he creates during this beautiful time of the day.

As a fellow architect I can appreciate David's wonderful photographs of the everyday, ordinary structures to the majestic, historical buildings of the world. He is truly a master at realizing the perfect framing and composition for his subjects. He also adds another great element to his exposures by capturing these wonders in "the blue hour!"--of which I have become a fan of doing also thanks to David!

David is one of my favourite photographers in the flickr universe. We both share the same passion for architecture, urban landscape and blue hour photography. In fact, David's pictures have inspired me much. He is a risk-taker, has an eye for detail and a strong sense of adventure, especially in finding the best composition. If you see some of his pictures, you often wonder, where did he took them from: standing? flying? Lying on the street?. His most identifiable trademarks are light trails amidst buildings during blue hour. I appreciate his comments and critical feedback, it helps alot in the process. Thank you for inspiring me, and also the friendship David!

I met David on Flickr a few months ago. And, ever since then I look forward to his pictures everytime I log on. If he has not posted new pictures, I hope he is out composing his shots for the next day. David is the Master of Night Photography, which to me is probably the most the challenging to get it right. So many variables, focus, shutter speed, apreture are all very tricky. But my friend David excells here. Look at his night picture there all spot on. Thanks to David, London, England has been captured so beautifully for all of us to enjoy. Bravo
