I am a communicator.

Whether writing essays or advertising copy, photographing mittens or people, my purpose is to elicit viewer response--from purchasing a product or service, to reconsidering their position on a particular issue.

Information, without a view toward follow-through, is never enough. Therein lies is the difference between informing and communicating. It is a point of view that informs my work as a photographer, writer and designer.

Of late, I've been using this to promote social change.

Although committed to no particular ideology, over the past five years, I've focused almost exclusively on editorial photography, creating images that promote social awareness and encourage thoughtful dialogue among all people of conscience, regardless of political beliefs.

This is not to say I no longer do commercial work. On the contrary. As my portfolio demonstrates, I enjoy advertising work. But, over the past few years, I've focused on creating images that reflect a more tolerant and accepting society--a perspective that, as noted, increasingly has come to inform my commercial work, as well.

Ultimately, what I seek in my commercial work is a balance of traditional advertising imagery with a natural, everyday feel that reminds us, no matter what we choose to eat, wear or buy, we remain connected to one another by what Henry Miller called "an instinctive rhythm of the heart."
