It's a pleasure to recommend Daryl's photo art. I should have done it a long time ago because I have been enjoying his images for ages. I could rave on for ever but I'll cut to the chase by recommending that you have look at some of his photos to get an idea of Daryl's enormous creative talent. Here is an artist who is never afraid to get up close and personal. Images of this quality can only be made with dedication and by having a positive relationship with his models, and, in the case of his gig pics, with the musicians and the music they create. I think Daryl is my longest running contact on flickr and has been continually supportive of my work since I've first uploaded to the site, which i very much appreciate. He is not a photographer who focuses on one specific subject, but how he sees is very much his own and creates photographs in his own unique style. There are of course, as with most people, recurrent themes within his work - I have to say I have never known anyone photograph quite so many graveyards, as he does so well. Also of interest are his clone images - with many people these all too often look gimmicky, but his are seamless and often black and white; somehow this makes them more uncanny and intriguing. Above all, he is obviously an enthusiastic photographer without ever falling into cliched styles and subject matter, and in addition, is supportive and enthusiastic about other's work.

I like Dara's photographs of people, particularly. He manages to get images of people and their surroundings in intriguing moments--not only when they're performing on stage but even in mundane contexts (I never thought I would enjoy looking at photos of people shopping at Costco in the 'burbs, but there you go...). … Read more

I like Dara's photographs of people, particularly. He manages to get images of people and their surroundings in intriguing moments--not only when they're performing on stage but even in mundane contexts (I never thought I would enjoy looking at photos of people shopping at Costco in the 'burbs, but there you go...). I don't know to call his current style of photography of people in public, but I think of it as "thoughtful snapshots" for lack of a better term: snapshots that give you a little glimpse of something quite random--yet interesting--rather than simply documenting.

This testimonial is long overdue. The first time I met Daryl was towards the end of the Alameda NAS stroll. He had the imagination to turn all of his photos from that stroll into a unique story revolving around the abandoned base. This testimonial is long overdue. The first time I met Daryl was towards the end of the Alameda NAS stroll. He had the imagination to turn all of his photos from that stroll into a unique story revolving around the abandoned base. It was something I had never seen before, and it worked perfectly with his photos. Even though our time was limited at the stroll, we seemed to hit it off right away and have kept in touch via Flickr ever since. I've enjoyed watching his photographic experiments and hope to meet up again soon to shoot some photos and discuss The Captain!
