Why I do this:

When I was younger, my grandfather would take me out every weekend to go fishing. His favorite way to tease me was to remind me that I wasn't being observant -- his way of looking at the world was that you always needed to be looking at things in just the right way for that moment in time. Context was king: One could be observant about where the fish would strike next, where to throw your line so as not to hook another person, or how to know when the sea was about to turn over into a devilish squall.

When I picked up a dSLR, for the first time in years, I felt that driving need to 'be observant'. The camera felt right in my hands after that. There is a moment of pure focus if you observe just right, everything else just sloughs away, and it's just you and the exposure. And every so often, you get an image from God's photo album (a bit like Erdös's book), and it all comes together, and you have that Moment it Clicks.

Man, how exciting is that?
