the religious belief that a photograph can steal a soul
is still ingrained in many cultures worldwide.
this belief stems from the old folklore beliefs
that mirrors could steal or trap souls.
a photo captures a specific moment, the reality
as it existed, the energy of people and places
in a quick one second snap that renders
living, expanding energy motionless -
transforming the electricity of life
into something one dimensional...
and perhaps what connects us so deeply to
photographs is that some part of our souls
recognize the energy imprint,
the importance of documenting
the living, breathing, whirling, twirling,
crazysadbeautiful world around us...
and in the end, maybe the photographer has
less to do with trapping of souls or nullifying
energy, and everything to do with simply
honoring life itself.

One of my very first contacts on Flickr and for good reason has remained there. I dont think anyone has inspired me as much as DHG. (And, not just photographically.) One of my very first contacts on Flickr and for good reason has remained there. I dont think anyone has inspired me as much as DHG. (And, not just photographically.) She sees songs and hears photographs like no one else. That perpetual assembly line of song, written word and images consistently produces a "look/style/thought" uniquely and unmistakably DHG. She is a spiraling galaxy and I am just one bit of star dust caught in the gravitational pull. Thanks DHG!

I'm honestly not sure what I appreciate more; her photos or her words. Ever thoughtful, both as a photographer and artist and as a person, her spirit is evident in her work. Though she may have legions of devoted fans, it never seems to go to her head, not even after a couple drinks with friends! I look forward to seeing what her artistic vision brings us next, no matter what words she comes up with or what camera she uses to capture the image. Truly, she's the embodiment of the statement "The Photographer makes the picture, not the camera!"

You can't know her until you have played her heads up, pocket kings against pocket kings.
DHG and I met at an Assignment Houston Meet-Up on January 20th, 2007. I did not know of her photostream prior to that (shame on me) but I knew that I wanted to be her friend the instant I met her. She is the most beautiful, kind, warm-hearted person that I've ever crossed paths with. We connect on so many levels and I have a very special place for her in my heart. Thank you flickr for leading me to my best friend, my other half and the coolest cool kid on the planet. She is one of the most talented photographers that I've come across; her attention to detail is more than amazing and her perspective is always unique. Her creativity never ceases to amaze me; I don't even have to say anything about her self portraits, they speaks volumes themselves. DHG is a beautiful person all around. I'm so thankful for her friendship, for Meat Loaf, for our shenanigans and for the wonderful memories we've made together. I am a better (and much cooler) person because she's my friend and I'm looking forward to filling several chapters in my book of life with Meat Loaf and shenanigans.

Cindy Margolis who? DHG is THE most beautiful woman on the Internet, with brains, talent, and great taste in music (and alcoholic beverages) to boot!
She's exactly the type of girl I'd love to drink Jagermeister with (and whose front porch, I'm guessing, is very accomodating). Oh, and her photos are fantastic as well.
