Although she calls herself a beginner, Cornelia has a head start in her photography because she has a wonderful 'eye' for what makes a striking image. Her pictures of flowers are beautiful and always so well presented, but for me, pride of place goes to the photographs of her daughter, Daria. Children are always beautiful to their parents, but she manages to convey that beauty to viewers of her portraits. Cornelia is also a generous Flickr friend, prepared to spend time looking at other sites and making kind comments. It's no wonder that she has so many fans of her own work! I note that she is branching out into other areas of photography and look forward to seeing her develop her undoubted talent. I should add that I am in awe of her command of my language, especially since I haven't a word of Romanian. I hope she will forgive having this first testimonial in a foreign language! Update It is sixteen months since I wrote the above testimonial for Cornelia and it's time for an update, not least because she is fulfilling all the promise that I saw in her earlier work. She continues to produce delightful portraits of children, helped by having an amazingly photogenic daughter, but it is her other work that has shown great progress and to which I want to draw attention. I love her self-portraits - and, indeed, all the photographs of her: what male wouldn't - she is clearly as beautiful as her daughter! But what is so attractive is that her personality shines through those photographs - she is so full of life, like sparkling champagne. I hope she will continue to explore this aspect of her work. It's not easy, but there is an intimacy about self-portraiture that stems from the fact that the photographer can control every aspect of the image shown and is therefore saying, "This is who I am and what I want you to know about me." Another element of her work is an ability to keep things simple. It's a form of minimalism and she is clever at finding the heart of a subject - some of them very unusual - and keeping it the focus of a photograph, not letting distractions take anything away. It is an ability I envy because it is the core of true artistry. Where will you have got to in another sixteen months, Cornelia? At this rate of progress, you will have a portfolio of photographs that will amaze everyone who comes to see them - perhaps an exhibition in a public gallery in Romania?
