Hello and welcome to my profile page. My name is Steve, I’m 42 and live in Aberdeenshire in Scotland with my wife Annette and our son Calum. That's me above looking stupid at my best friends wedding.

I was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, but due to my father’s career in the Royal Airforce, we moved around a bit, from there to Weston Supermare, to South Witham and finishing off in Lossiemouth, eventually ending up in Aberdeen with my Mum and brother after our parents separated in 1976. My wife, to be at the time, Annette and I moved to the West midlands in 1994, had Calum in 1998, and moved back here to Aberdeenshire in June 2011.

I took up photography for the first time in September 2011 after having to medically retire in May due to me having Multiple Sclerosis. Once we saw how much wildlife was visiting our garden and surrounding area we decided photography would be a good pastime for me. So an early retirement present from my lovely wife was a Fujifilm HS20EXR bridge camera to give it a try. The cheaper option for me to learn on, just incase I turned out to be really terrible and the camera sat in a bag, in a cupboard, like a few items have ended up over the years.

I decided to go down the Macro route mainly due to my not being able to walk very well with the MS and after finding pictures by Thomas Shahan on Flickr and by visiting his own website.

I have been trying to learn things through reading, looking at other members pictures on Flickr and playing with the camera, along with many pointers from Iain Lawrie and Eddie Nurcombe, both of whose work I really like. Thanks chaps for the help and tips. :)

I do, on occasion, like to set up the camera on the tripod and take pictures of the birds that visit the garden. It can get very busy here giving me plenty for photograph.

I have recently given my Fuji camera set up to my 13 year old son Calum which Fuji UK replaced with a new HS30EXR after mine developed a fault. He has also taken an interest in photography. Hopefully we will have many good days out together taking pictures of things around us.

Here's Calums first attempt :0)

I'd like to finish by saying a big thank you to those of you who take the time to comment and favourite my pictures, I am not looking for any praise, but tips and pointers are greatly appreciated. I just want to share what I am getting with you because if it wasn't for you guys sharing yours, I wouldn't be learning much at all. It's amazing what's out there in this world of ours and I would love to get out there and find a whole lot more.
